Day Trip to Ipswich Markets, Queensland. Australia
We headed 40 minutes southwest of Brisbane to Ipswich, which is one of Queensland’s hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Deep provincial roots and an interesting history that followed, a growing culinary scene catering to every palette and so much on offer for families with a love of the outdoors to couples looking for a quiet day out of the city, Ipswich is well worth the day trip. You may find you even want to stay a little longer.
Our visit was to check out the Ipswich Showplace Markets that just re-opened. If there’s an item you’ve been hoping to come across for a while now, chances are you’ll find it at the Ipswich Showplace Markets. These markets are for the serious bargain-shopper. There are rows and rows of stalls selling everything from new and secondhand toys, clothes, books, arts and crafts to DVD’s, hardware, hot food and produce.
The Ipswich Showplace Markets are held every Sunday at Ipswich Showgrounds from 6am-11.30am and entry is a coin donation. Ipswich is such a short drive from Brisbane that it's certainly somewhere you should've explored by now!
We hit the road again for another iconic market, Springfield Markets. We wandered through the variety of arts and crafts stalls, and locally crafted homewares, fashion and more in picturesque Robelle Parkland.
Kim picked up a couple of tumblers from Blossom's Resin Tumblers & Homewares. They have a big selection of tumblers and homewares.
Robelle Domain Parkland has plenty of open spaces to eat and play. Covering 25 hectares, Robelle Domain is located in Springfield Central, between Orion Shopping Centre and the University of Southern Queensland. With Zero Depth Water Play area, walkways & bikeways, playground, two onsite cafes and now its newest addition, The Lagoon, it impresses every visitor. Don't forget your picnic blanket and your swimmers when it’s warm.
Just up the road we headed to Orion Springfield Central, which combines the best of a traditional town centre with its main street, town square, public spaces and parks and integrates with a carefully planned retail environment unlike any other in Australia. While Kim got her retail fix, I waited with Shari (pup) at Orion’s Off Leash Park, which is Queensland's only off leash Dog Park in a shopping centre. A giant bespoke dog sculpture is a feature at the park which has designated sections for small and large dogs, as well as drinking fountains and stretches of grass. The master-planned community of Springfield in the City of Ipswich has a lot to offer, whether you live there or you’re just visiting
